Welcome back! If you’re interested, I recently published a short story called A Clever Counterfeit that takes place in the Detective Watts universe. The characters mentioned in this month’s puzzle belong exclusively to that story; let’s check it out, then!
The next entry is based on Yin-Yang. Penny Morgan, the front-desk manager at La Forgerie, has been tasked with rearranging the counterfeit coin display. Her boss, Mr. Forge, is rather picky about each coin’s placement. The exhibit, represented as a grid, must conform to the following rules:
- All silver coins must be connected in a single group. Likewise, all the gold coins must be connected in a single group.
- No 2×2 areas (i.e. squares) of the same coin type are allowed.
The pictures below depict a sample puzzle on a 5×5 grid, along with its solution. The coins in the sample cannot be moved from their original locations, so you must fill the empty squares instead.
Now, can you solve the puzzle below and help Penny arrange the display?
The solution will be released in the next blog post. Also, if you tried the puzzle from the last blog entry, here is its solution below. Don’t forget to check out my new short story; otherwise, see you next time!
