Puzzle 17: Enzo’s Dominoes

March 1, 2026

Hey there! I hope your day, week, year, etc. is going well, and I’m happy to see you back for another puzzle. If you ever have questions about a puzzle’s rules or solution, by the way, please reach out to me on my Contact page; I also accept suggestions for new puzzle types if you have them. With that out of the way, let’s get puzzling!

The next entry is based on Norinori. Enzo Kilfoyle, a skillful physics student, likes to play with dominoes. One of his games involves dividing a grid into regions and placing dominoes on them in a specific manner. That manner is summarized by the following rules:

  • Each region of the grid should have exactly two “domino” cells. A domino cell is a grid cell that contains part of a domino (i.e. a 2×1 rectangle). Note that dominoes can cross the region borders.
  • The dominoes cannot touch each other, except diagonally.

The pictures below depict a sample puzzle on a 6×6 grid, along with its solution. The thick black borders are used to denote each grid region, and the blue-colored cells represent domino cells.

Now, can you solve the puzzle below and help Enzo place his dominoes?

The solution will be released in the next blog post. Also, if you tried the puzzle from the last blog entry, here is its solution below. There’s a lot you can do with a chess board, isn’t there?
