The Shattered Alarm

A company hurtles toward financial ruin. A local resident vanishes without a trace. And a new detective has only one day to save them both.

Marty Watts, an apprentice at the Hertz County Police Department, lands his first opportunity to investigate with the renowned detective Sherman Hoakes. The duo initially sets out to assist Netmore, an electronics manufacturer in downtown Granville, with an alleged database hack. However, their workday takes a shocking turn when a Granville citizen disappears. Balancing two cases proves tougher than Marty anticipated, but he’s up to the challenge.

Join Marty in his electrifying debut as he gathers evidence, conducts interviews, and makes deductions on the fly. You’ll follow him and his costars while the story unfolds from each of their perspectives; slowly but surely, their paths will overlap and converge into one. To make sense of the present, you may have to look to the past. Oh, and don’t expect to breeze through unopposed-your friends can just as easily become your foes.

Can you solve the mystery of the shattered alarm?

Reviews

While I usually abhor stories that exaggerate or embellish the facts, this was a rather faithful adaptation of Marty’s first day of detective work. Nor can I complain about my portrayal as a sharp-witted, unshakeable investigator. I look forward to additional entries in the series.

It was interesting to see the story told from other perspectives; I didn’t realize how much trouble everyone went through on my behalf. Marty may have a knack for detective work, but the author has a true gift for storytelling. Thank you for treating the subject matter respectfully.

WORST. BOOK. EVER!!!

The author made me out to be a complete idiot. Why does Marty get all the attention and praise while I’m standing there like a defenseless duck? I’ll have my revenge in the next entry, and justice will be mine!
